Here at ppcpathways.com, we focus on providing our readers with reviews, tips, tricks, and tutorials for pocketpc's. Our original goal was to review products but lately we have been adding more tutorials and there are a few more in the works right now. After recently switching from Windows Media Player 10 to iTunes because of numerous reasons, I am searching for the best way to get music from iTunes on to my ipaq. Upon searching, I have found a few great programs that seem to do what this project requires, but I decided to suggest a few additions before writing the tutorial. It now depends on how quickly the companies that I have contacted to implement these features, but I will still go ahead and find a workaround to the problems I have discovered if this process is taking too long. In the meantime, enjoy our reviews and articles plus don't forget to check out our forums and search tools. Thanks for visiting and please be sure to check back!

Receiving Podcasts with iPodder

Published: 08-19-05 at 10:30 PM
Comment No comments

Podcasts are gaining popularity very quickly. They are so useful because new content is automatically downloaded and can be copied to an mp3 player, or better yet, your iPaq or other Pocket PC device! Although iPodder doesn't appear to support copying to a device, I have a better solution for owners of MightySync. I find that MightySync is useful for so many other things as well, including favorites.

ppcTunes Syncs iTunes

Published: 08-19-05 at 09:55 PM

For a period of about 2 months, I was very happy with the combination of Windows Media Player 10 for the desktop and Windows Media Player 10 for the Pocket PC platform. However, I recently switched to iTunes on my desktop because I can use one central database on my server (which is where my mp3's are stored) and then my family can access this database centrally. This means that if I add songs or change song data, the one database will be updated and efore the other computers will be updated as well. The only problem with this is that WMP10 has great synchronization capabilities for the Pocket PC that iTunes lacks--because they want you to use an iPod! ppcTunes attempts to solve this problem and does a pretty good job at it.

Card Export II PPC

Published: 08-15-05 at 01:58 PM

Active Sync is notorious for giving its users very slow transfer speeds. This may be because it doesn't handle higher speed connections well or there may be another very technical reason. The truth is, however, that most newer devices support much faster transfer speeds. A new program from Softick attempts and seems to succeed in speeding up transfers. It is a very small application that sits on the taskbar of the today screen and can easily be turned on or off. Off mode allows normal USB functions.

Windows Media Player 10

Copying music to a handheld can be a very time consuming process. The old method of getting music on my own handheld, which was the 3835, consisted of opening my music folder and manually selecting individual songs, albums, or artists. This took a very long time because I would usually select maybe 10 songs at a time and then drag them to my card (while connected through ActiveSync) and this would lock the windows until the copy was complete, slowing the process down even more!

GamePad BGP100

Since many users of the HP iPAQ HX4700 are so disappointed with the built in touchpad, they may find their gaming experience lacking! Chainpus makes this wireless game controller, but it is important to realize that it can also be used for controlling other programs. It essentially adds new buttons and another example of a great use is to control Windows Media Player, or another media player, while listening to music. This way, you can put your iPAQ away and the cord can be hidden, but you can still control it wirelessly. I also tested the controller while using the HP BT wireless headphones and it didn't degrade the quality much. By the way, the buttons on the headphones are not working. These are supposed to change songs or pause the player. Volume does work, but this controls the headphones and doesn't have to communicate with the device.

FairUse for DVDs to DivX or XVid

Published: 07-12-05 at 08:46 PM

Laptop users, like myself, and people with Pocket PCs may want to bring some of their personal DVDs with them when they are going away for a while. Instead of dragging all of those DVDs along with you, here is a great method for converting your DVDs into high quality DivX or XVid movies.

What You Will Need

  • A DVD that you legally own
  • A DVD reader on your computer
  • A copy of FairUse Wizard
  • A few hours (depending on output size and length of movie) to spend on the conversion

Finance 2.0 Released

Published: 07-12-05 at 06:54 PM

July 12, 2005 - Spb Software House, a leading Pocket PC software developer, releases a new version of personal finance tracker bestseller Spb Finance 2.0. In the last months Spb worked hard to move it's product to the highest level of functionality, speed and usability. The new version of Spb Finance became the most comprehensive personal finance tracking Pocket PC application on the market.

An analysis of user feedback, results of usability testing and Spb Survey were used as the base for defining the most important direction of product improvement. Besides adding support for ActiveSync 4.0 and Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 and implementing many requested features, the main accent was on following three needs of all personal finance tracking software users:

  • Entering transactions quickly and easily
  • Powerful, customizable and easy to use reports
  • Synchronizing data between desktop and Pocket PC

Full Screen Keyboard

Published: 06-27-05 at 02:11 PM

When PocketPC users do not have a keyboard with them, they may feel like they can't even consider creating a document because it would be tedious and very slow with the built in standard keyboard. This is a great solution because since it is software based, no additional hardware is required and therefore, it can be installed and then it will be with you at all times. There are quite a few extra buttons and special characters to use so you won't feel deprived!

HP Bluetooth Headphones

Published: 06-24-05 at 10:01 PM
Comment No comments

After realizing how useful the HP BT Headphones could be, I decided to order myself a pair. Since my favorite online retailer, Buy.com, didn't carry them, I went to Amazon.com and they had them, but they were selling them from CompUSA. They included tax and shipping, but I had a $10 coupon from taking a TiVo survey that pretty much cancelled those charges, bringing my final charge to right around $100. The problems that others have discussed worry me, but I am anxious to see them for myself. I am willing to sacrifice some quality for the freedom, but the headband cracking problem would seriously anger me, especially when paying this much for a pair of headphones.

Addition: The carrier (forget which it is) was shipping it from Texas I think and for some reason, it moved out to California, which is the opposite direction, and that delayed delivery by about 4 days. Has anyone else ever had this happen?
